Old and self portrait to start a new. I can't remember whom I first saw doing a SP to start a new sketchbook (maybe @wcraghead ?) but it's a great idea.

Personal struggle between drawing from life and educated doodling.
Watching a thing on Vox (via @jkottke ) about snails in illuminated medieval manuscripts it struck me that the images are outlined. Lots of contemporary comics folks say outlined drawings are artifacts of the printing process, but this demonstrates other concerns may be involved.
